Written examination (40 marks)

A written examination of one hour and 30 minutes plus 5 minutes reading time.

Section I Australian Drama and Theatre

  • One extended response question, with an expected length of response of around six examination writing booklet pages (approximately 800 words).

  • Seven extended response questions
  • Students answer one question, with an expected length of response of around six examination writing booklet pages (approximately 800 words).

Practical examination – Group Performance (30 marks)

The Group Performance will be a piece of original theatre which:

  • is a complete theatrical statement demonstrating a sense of dramatic shape and structure
  • provides an opportunity for each student to demonstrate his or her performance skills
  • is performed by no fewer than three and no more than six students
  • is 8–12 minutes in duration.

Individual Project (30 marks)

Candidates will undertake a project drawn from one of the following areas:

  • Critical Analysis
  • Design
  • Performance
  • Scriptwriting
  • Video Drama

Changes from current examination specifications

The expected length for the extended responses is included as a guide. It is presented as the approximate number of examination writing booklet pages (based on average-sized handwriting), and/or an approximate number of words. Students will not be penalised for responses of excess length: they may write less than or more than what is expected, and their responses will be marked on their merits.

There will be three to five assessment tasks comprising the following components and weightings.
